Chelsea’s 4-1 defeat to Liverpool last month really stung. It was the latest case of our team getting a slap in the face just when we were trying to convince ourselves that they had gone to the next level and were making progress.
Since that defeat we’ve had another positive results, meaning that belief is creeping back in. Speaking to the Evening Standard, even Malo Gusto, who was torn apart that day, thinks the experience can help us:
“I think so, yes. Now we know how they play, move and use their players. It was good to play against them five games ago and we are ready.
“After that game, we stuck together on the training ground or in defensive or offensive actions [on the pitch]. I think it is just about mentality. That’s what we have had in the last three games, and I think that’s why we played better, and we have to keep it.”
We hope he’s right, and that this patch of good form isn’t setting us up to just get put in our place once again by Jurgen Klopp’s team. We do like the positivity from Malo though, and if we were to back anyone in the current squad to dig deep and fight viciously for a win tomorrow, he would be among the top candidates.
Let’s hope he’s right that we learned from our humiliation at Anfield, and are ready to take the fight to the Reds this time around.
