Carney Chukwuemeka proves once again he should start – Pochettino has two weeks to see the light

Carney Chukwuemeka came on in today’s win over Leicester and made the difference, there’s no two ways about it.

The effect is enhanced by the fact he replaced Raheem Sterling, who was having an all time stinker. But even ignoring that, Carney was a game changer.

He racked up 7 touches in the box, 3rd most on the team, even in his few minutes on the pitch.

He’s so well suited to that inside forward role that Cole Palmer likes on the other side. HIs goal was a lovely finish, lovely link up with Palmer, an intelligent, aggressive run breaking a deep block.

Surely even this brief cameo, combined with the other flashes we’ve seen every time he’s given a chance, will persuade Mauricio Pochettino he needs to start? He’s got a while to think about it with the international break coming up, but we pray he sees the light over the next fortnight. Carney fill be fresh and fit and ready to go. No more excuses to leave him out now, Mauricio.

  1. You’re kidding, right? SuperFrank uses 10 minutes on the field to try and rationalize starting a player who’s barely been healthy for a collective month all season, lol!

He looked bright. He took his chance well and he should earn more playing time, but a starting role? Let’s not get ahead of ourselves! What we need now more than anything are players who can turn in consistent performances and the manager will rightfully want to see Carney look convincing for more than just a 10-minute cameo before inserting him in the starting lineup.
