Chelsea “ready to do what they can” to get rid of unwanted player

Chelsea’s left back situation is a total mess.

Not long ago it was our strongest area, with Ben Chilwell, Marc Cucurella, Lewis Hall and Ian Maatsen all competing for minutes last summer. But since then Hall and Maatsen have gone (temporarily with a view to permanent moves), and it seems like Cucurella could be next.

Caughtoffside are today reporting that Chelsea are “ready to do what they can” to get rid of him.

Reports in Spain say he’s keen on a return to La Liga, where he made a name for himself before coming to Brighton in the Premier League.

The issue will be money. We paid Brighton so much for him that not even Barcelona or Real Madrid are likely to come close to offering what we want, let alone the teams in La Liga who might actually want to sign him. Loaning him out and paying most of his wages seems the best way to get ourselves out of this mess, at least in the short term.

He’s back in training again now after his injury, so we will have to see what solutions the club come up with through the final months of the campaign.
