Chelsea target’s release clause set to rise to €150m if latest contract offer is accepted

Top Portuguese football outlet O Jogo are today reporting on the growing interest in Benfica midfielder Joao Neves.

The creative starlet is getting more and more playing time for the first team, and attention from Europe’s top clubs is starting to focus on him.

Manchester United are reported to be at the front of the queue, but Chelsea are mentioned soon after. It’s also noted how our purchase of Enzo Fernandez in January 2023 opened the doors for Neves to start getting more first team action.

Benfica president Rui Costa is seeking to offer Neves a new contract which will pay him a lot more – but will also raise his release clause from €120m to €150m. The offer is on the table, it just needs to be signed by Neves. But given his agent is Jorge Mendes, anything could happen, and we could yet see a further twist in the story.
