The Daily Telegraph have signed off on the international break with a nice little feature that’s sure to get plenty of clicks, judging each Premier League player by how many points per game they generate when they’re in the team.
Chelsea have not had a good points per game return this season in general, but there is one player who earns more when he’s on the pitch than any other in the squad – and the answer won’t be surprising for many people who watch us play, although there are some fans who will get annoyed: Conor Gallagher is top of the charts.
The midfielder earns Chelsea 1.34 points per game when he’s in the team, and he’s started 26 of 27 of our Premier League matches, missing one against Manchester United where he was suspended and we looked terrible without him.
So his average is the same as the team’s minus that one defeat. It’s interesting that there’s nobody who has played just a handful of games with a better record than him.
