“He must have a chance”- Pundit on Chelsea stars chance of making the Euros

Ally McCoist believes that Cole Palmer is playing better than Marcus Rashford and has a real chance of going to the Euros this summer.

Palmer has made a phenomenal impact at Chelsea following his move from Manchester City last summer and his form saw him rewarded with a first call up to the England squad last November where he made his debut against Malta at Wembley.

The 21 year old shone for the Blues once again on Monday night as he scored and assisted in the same game for a Premier League high fifth time in front of the watchful eye of England manager Gareth Southgate.

There’s going to be plenty of competition for places in the attacking areas this summer and McCoist made an interesting comparison between Palmer and Rashford.

Speaking on talkSPORT he said:  “He must have a chance. It depends what Gareth Southgate does.”

“Cole Palmer has been absolutely terrific, you’ve got to say Cole Palmer’s form is certainly better than the likes of Rashford and boys like that.”

Palmer has scored 11 goals and registered eight assists in the Premier League this season compared to Rashford who has seven goals and six assists.

There’s still a long way to go this season and anything can happen but if Palmer keeps up the form he’s shown so far then it’s hard to imagine how he can be overlooked this summer.

  1. Something is badly wrong if Palmer doesn’t make the squad. He’s easily one of the most promising young talents in the country and he’s shown a consistency that far more experienced players (like Rashford) have failed to produce. He’s earned the call up.
