“He’s a top manager and a top person” – Chelsea’s star player backs his under-pressure coach

Cole Palmer has been the real shining light of this Chelsea season.

A late signing in the summer window who felt a little like an afterthought, he’s proved to be anything but. He’s been the central piece in the team’s attack ever since he broke into the side.

It’s been a long time since we had a player on the books who was so clinical in the opposition area: Palmer has ten assists and 12 goals in all competitions, a quite incredible record.

Speaking to the club’s official site, he explained what he thought about his progress since August:

“I’ve definitely improved as a player coming here. I just felt [in the summer] like I was ready to play football week in, week out and that’s what I’m doing here at Chelsea.”

He also had some interesting revelations about Mauricio Pochettino and his connection with his new coach:

“The manager has definitely helped me, he’s a top manager and a top person. He speaks to you about anything, like family issues. I think if he knows what’s going on off the pitch, it can affect how he is with you on the pitch. He’s really great at that.”

That backing is vital to Pochettino, who seems to have 100% of the players still behind him despite having lost some fans. As long as the coach can keep Palmer firing, he can feel pretty safe in his job.
