“I felt the pressure” – Midfield star opens up on debut season at Chelsea

Moises Caicedo has revealed that the increased pressure has been the biggest challenge since he joined Chelsea.

The 22 year old is in his debut campaign at Stamford Bridge following his British record transfer from Brighton last summer.

It has been a season of adaptation for the Ecuadorian as he gets used to his new surroundings and new team mates.

Having initially struggled Caicedo has started to find his feet in the heart of the Blues midfield alongside Enzo Fernandez and has become a key player under Mauricio Pochettino making 34 appearances across all competitions.

Joining a new club is full of challenges to overcome but Caicedo feels the biggest hurdle has been the increased pressure of joining a big club like Chelsea.

Speaking to the club’s official website he said: “At the beginning, I felt the pressure, in my mind, I wanted to show my best football and why the club paid the money for me.”

“After that, I started to speak with people who helped me understand that if Chelsea signed me it’s because I am worth it. I have kept on playing and I know I have to show my best on the pitch.”

“Of course, I haven’t played every game well and it was tough at the beginning, but now I feel good and feel I am helping the team. I am only thinking about the game and not what people are saying about me.”

Caicedo will be back in action on Monday night as Chelsea face Newcastle at Stamford Bridge in a must win game in the race for European qualification.
