“I speak to..” Lampard reveals which current Chelsea player he’s still in touch with

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard has revealed he’s still in contact with Reece James despite not working at the club anymore.

Lampard had an unbelievable playing career at Stamford Bridge and is the club’s all time leading scorer but has also managed the Blues on two separate occasions since retiring from the game.

The 45 year old came in on an interim basis for the final ten games of a dismal campaign last season with many players having downed tools.

That period saw Lampard win just one of his games in charge which is in stark contrast to his first spell where he guided the Blues to a top four finish despite a transfer ban and losing Eden Hazard.

One player who was there for both Lampard’s spells in charge was Reece James who is now the club captain.

Speaking to JOE Lampard revealed that he still speaks to the 24  year old and said: “If you can be a help to a player, not just on the pitch but off the pitch. I still hold good relationships with a lot of players that I’ve coached, particularly the younger ones where you feel like you’ve really had a part in their development.”

“I speak to Mason Mount or Reece James that you’re chatting to or meeting up with, trying to give advice, and you get a nice feeling off that. You’re a little part of their career and things like that.”

“They do reach out. I’m lucky to have worked with some good young players in my early days of management.”

“You have to have some close relationships to get the best out of them. I enjoy that part of it. I speak to the lads because I have a big interest in them.”

Chelsea will hoping James returns from injury to feature before the end of the season but he won’t be rushed back.
