Christopher Nkunku trains in the gym.

Mauricio Pochettino makes significant comments on the fitness of two first team stars

Mauricio Pochettino got cornered on some of Chelsea’s injury issues in his press conference today, and revealed some quite significant updates on players, including a couple of the genuinely top players in the team.

Christopher Nkunku and Reece James should be stars of the league. Instead they’ve played just a handful of games between them. Whatever their impact in these last few games, it will be token, but there is a chance.

“I don’t know if Reece James will play again this season, I don’t want to make predictions now”. “We hope yes but we will see week by week for Reece James and Christopher Nkunku, we don’t have precise game for return yet,” Pochettino revealed.

The two were expected to be two of the most experienced and most high quality starting age players in the team. Instead, Pochettino has barely bee able to pick them.

The club are likely to play these injuries very carefully given the nightmares we’ve had all around this season, so even if they’re able to train at some point soon they will be given a very slow ramp back up to the team.

In fact, in both cases the safe option is to use them very sparingly, if and when they’re ready.
