“Not a centre forward really” – talkSPORT pundit on £32m Chelsea star

Paul Ince believes that Nicolas Jackson is “not really a centre forward” and Chelsea are playing him in the wrong position.

Jackson joined the Blues from Spanish side Villareal last summer for £32m and is having a good debut campaign at Stamford Bridge.

The 22 year old has scored 11 goals in all competitions and has shown his versatility by playing down the flanks as well as through the middle.

The Senegalese has played through the middle for the majority of this season due to the fitness of Christopher Nkunku and the fact the London club didn’t sign a centre forward last summer.

At Villareal Jackson predominately played down the left and speaking on talkSPORT Ince believes although he can play up front it’s not his best position.

“They need a striker, they bought Nkunku, but he’s never fit. Jackson’s not a centre forward really. When he was at Villarreal, he was playing on the left hand side. That’s his normal position but can play that role.

“But they’ve never actually got a striker and that’s always been a problem.”

Chelsea are widely expected to spend big on a centre forward this summer and have been heavily linked with Victor Osimhen as well as Viktor Gyokeres and Ivan Toney.

Jackson will be hoping to add to his goal tally on Monday night when he leads the line for the Blues in a crucial match against Newcastle at Stamford Bridge.
