Talk of £51m valued teenager make so sense while Chelsea are mid-table

After you’ve had such a desperately disappointing result as Chelsea had yesterday, sometimes the best way to cheer yourself up is to think about transfer and other matters that affect the club off the pitch.

We’ve seen all too clearly in the last year that buying players won’t fix anything right away, but equally we’ve also seen that this team could do with an injection of quality. The latest rumours, carried this morning by Caughtoffside, are that another South American talent is on our radar.

Chelsea are apparently keen on 16 year old prodigy Estevao Willian, and have been working on signing him since December.

This would be a long term addition of course, and he wouldn’t even be able to move to England for two years. We can’t imagine they’re ready to spend the £51m release clause on a player who won’t be able to contribute right away. In fact, how could you justifying spending any money at all on such unproven players? You have to earn the right to be able to think that far ahead, and we haven’t.
