“That’s the situation” – Mauricio Pochettino on his big winger decision

Mauricio Pochettino had a big call to make ahead of today’s game against Burnley.

With Carney Chukwuemeka out injured, it was between Raheem Sterling and Mykhailo Mudryk for the left wing slot. It was a big call, and the coach has had to explain himself to the media about why he went for the Ukrainian.

In the end he he didn’t really explain the logic behind his decision so much as just lay it out there that he had made it:

“Raheem Sterling is on the bench today and that’s the situation but we know he is ready to help the team when he comes on, we really believe in him,” the coach said to the club’s official app.

Sterling had a rocky time against Leicester in our last home game, but we felt that given he had had two weeks resting and training with Pochettino, that he’d be the man to get the nod in an attempt to get the fans back onside.

Instead, Mudryk got the nod after scoring for his country in midweek. Let’s see how he gets on – we’re sure Sterling will get a run out in the second half regardless. Perhaps he can even get a late winner to really get the place bouncing.
