“There were no egos” – Frank Sinclair on why 90s Chelsea squad gelled so well

There is a lot of talk right now about this current Chelsea squad and whether they have the team spirit and know-how to succeed.

Make no mistake, this is a young and raw team in general, with it being the youngest starting Xl in the Premier League pretty much every week right now. So they are learning, developing, and just getting used to being at such a big club like Chelsea with such high pressures.

The squad is also full of new players, with a gutting taken place in recent windows with players being sold and replaced, left, right, and centre! So naturally the team spirit will take time to come, and recently, there is a feeling that we are really starting to see it from a tight-knit bunch of players.

During the 90s, Chelsea had one of the best team spirits around in what was a very popular squad amongst the fan base, and Frank Sinclair, who was part of that squad, has been explaining why they all gelled so well.

We just had a real spirit around the squad and it all gelled unbelievably well because there were no egos in the dressing room,’ he explains via the Chelsea website.

‘There was a driving force that was led by the likes of Dennis Wise, even with world stars in your team, like Gianluca Vialli and Gianfranco Zola. We all mucked in together and valued each other’s qualities to make it a real good group.’
