“These are things we can learn from” – Petrovic on dropping points against Brentford

Djordje Petrovic has insisted that Chelsea can learn from the Carabao Cup final defeat and the draw against Brentford.

The Blues were held to a frustrating 2-2 draw against The Bees which saw more points dropped as the club desperately try to avoid missing out on European football for a second consecutive season.

Petrovic put in another good display against Brentford and has firmly established himself as the first choice goalkeeper since coming into the side at the end of last year following a knee injury to Robert Sanchez.

Despite the disappointment of the Carabao Cup final defeat and the dropped points last weekend the Serbian feels Chelsea still have plenty to play for in the remainder of the season and can take lessons from those tough moments.

Speaking to the club’s official website the 24 year old said: “We feel the pain from this result because we want to win every game and it’s off the back of a tough week, following the defeat in the Carabao Cup final.”

“After that game at Wembley, we needed to get back to winning ways and we found that extra motivation and energy against Leeds. We had a good result and we wanted to do that again against Brentford.”

“These are things we can learn from. The final was a good experience even though it wasn’t the end result we wanted. We are a young team and it was a good lesson for us, to improve on next time.”

“We have big games coming up in both the Premier League and the FA Cup and there is still so much for us to achieve this season.”

Petrovic arrived last summer for £14m from MLS side New England Revolution and has made 18 appearances across all competitions and has kept four clean sheets.

  1. Love this mindset from Petrovic. It’s worth noting that it’s also very much in sync with how Poch has been talking. The only thing left is for the fan base to get it through their heads that a loss is only a setback if you learn nothing from it!
