(Video): Why Ian Wright picks Anthony Gordon over Cole Palmer for England

Gareth Southgate is at Stamford Bridge for tonight’s game, and he’s got a couple of young English attackers to watch face off.

Chelsea have Cole Palmer and Newcastle have Anthony Gordon.

On Sky, Ian Wright insisted that if he had to pick one for the England squad for the Euros this summer, he’d go for Gordon. His reasoning is that whichever goes, they’ll be a sub. And Gordon’s serious pace is more useful as a sub than Palmer’s more technical and considered strengths.

You can see Wrighty make his point in the clip embedded here and decide for yourself:

  1. I’m sorry, but Ian Wright has his head up his hind quarters on this one. Gordon may have Palmer for pace, but Palmer is the craftier and more well-rounded of the two. Just look at the number of assists (as well as goals) he’s got. It’s not really a contest.
