“We need to put in context” – Pochettino on Chelsea’s form

Mauricio Pochettino has insisted that Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Brentford needs to be “put in context.”

The Blues rescued a point late on through Axel Disasi’s equaliser and had an opportunity to win the game through Raheem Sterling.

It was more dropped points for Pochettino’s side which sees them stay in the bottom half of the table and fail to make up meaningful ground in the race for European qualification which is believed to be crucial to his long term future at the club.

Fans were visibly frustrated with another disappointing performance and the 52 year old was subject to unsavoury chants from the away support for the first time this season.

After the game Pochettino called for context on the performance at the Gtech Community Stadium and told The Standard: “I think we need to put it in context. Even if sometimes people do not listen, it is our third game in six days, with Leeds and Brentford always having the advantage of a few days more to prepare for the game against us.”

“When you are a little bit short in the squad like we are with some players recovering, it’s always difficult.”

“We are going to fight for our place and for our position.”

Pochettino now has a full week to prepare for Chelsea’s game against Newcastle on Monday night which will be another key game in the Blues quest to qualify for European football next season.
