Fabrizio Romano has been reported on the interest in Victor Osimhen for months, maybe even years. But the striker has thus far stayed put at Napoli.
All sides seem to think this is the summer he will move on though, with their fortunes fading in Italy and the striker’s transfer value peaking. Will Chelsea be the lucky team to land him? Can they even afford his £100m+ release clause?
Well, it sounds like we’re going to have to wait to find out. Romano’s exclusive column for Caughtoffside this week put the brakes on any move at all, let alone one to Chelsea:
“We have been speaking about PSG, Arsenal and Chelsea for months…for sure these clubs are interested, I don’t think it’s new. It’s going to be important to see who is going to make concrete steps to sign Osimhen, but at the moment we’re not at that stage yet; and it’s the same on player side,” Romano wrote.
“Osimhen is focused on Napoli for now after signing a new contract earlier this season, even if the feeling was that he would probably leave the club this summer, so let’s see what happens closer to June/July.”
The problem is that we don’t know which European competition, if any we will be in next season, nor do we really know who the manager will be or what kind of budget we will be working with. That makes making any concrete proposals very difficult.
