“You have to move on from it” – Sky Sports pundit urges Chelsea to stay away from former manager

Sky Sports pundit Stephen Warnock believes Chelsea should stick with Mauricio Pochettino as manager and stay away from Jose Mourinho.

Pochettino signed a two year contract last summer with the option of a further year but is coming under huge pressure at Stamford Bridge with his side currently 11th in the Premier League.

The fans turned on the 52 year old in last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Brentford and the Argentine is facing an uphill battle to try and win supporters back over.

The plan is to assess Pochettino’s future at the end of the season but reports have already emerged saying  Chelsea are identifying possible replacements with Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim and Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi two names on the list.

Chelsea fans chanted the name of former manager Jose Mourinho last weekend who is currently out of work with some fans wanting the Portuguese to return for a third spell.

The Daily Mail reported earlier this week that it was unlikely Mourinho would return for a third spell in West London.

When discussing the links to Mourinho Warnock told Sky Sports: “For me, no, no. You have to move on from it. I think to go back for a third spell would be incredible for him from a nostalgic point of view, but I don’t think it’s the right fit.”

“That period of history for Chelsea is gone, and you have to look forward. Would his style of management work on a squad like that? It might do. It might be something that galvanises the squad. But I still think you’ve to give Pochettino the opportunity.”

  1. It shouldn’t take an ex-player from another club to state the obvious. The Chelsea “supporters” who’ve turned on Poch and are calling for Mourinho’s return are off their rockers. They’ve ceased to be supporters and are just making themselves a nuisance. Leave the club and don’t come back is what I have to say to them because they obviously haven’t a clue what’s good for it!

  2. Sad but true, Jose was great for us in the past but, that’s where it needs to stay. He can only ruin his legacy by a 3rd spell at the club.
However, please please please, no more Brighton cast offs.
