Chelsea and their biggest rivals could end up with “double deal” shirt sponsorship, exclusive reveals

After such a painful defeat yesterday, perhaps it’s better to turn our attentions to off-pitch matters for a while.

There is a lot to be changed and improved this summer on the field, but as the summer break approaches, there’s a huge amount to be done behind the scenes too. One of the major embarrassments of this campaign was playing a major chunk of it without a front of shirt sponsor, and that has to be avoided this time around.

The good news on that front comes from our writer Simon Phillips in a really exciting exclusive on his Substack. He says that his sources tell him Chelsea have a good chance of completing a deal with Nike Air Jordan.

However, as he points out, all of these potential deals will be contingent on where Chelsea finish, and getting into Europe sounds like it’s a prerequisite for some of them. He notes that both Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali have been personally involved in “working on relationships” to build these deals, and confidently says:

“Chelsea will have a new front of shirt sponsor in place for next season.”

Let’s hope so – everyone else seems to manage it ok. Air Jordan are apparently considering doing a “double deal with both clubs,” an interesting idea which would unite us with one of our biggest rivals.

The importance of speed

Chelsea know that all of this has a large effect on the playing squad too. They need to balance the books, so any money they can bring in from sponsors is less money they need to bring in from selling players. Securing a major deal sooner rather than later could save a player or two from being sold before the June 30th accounting deadline for this season which now looms so large.

So whether you’re the kind of person who cares about what we have written on our shirts or not, you’ll want to pay attention to this story.
