“To win a trophy with a new squad is so massive” – Chelsea star on what winning the FA Cup would mean

Moises Caicedo believes winning the FA Cup would be “massive” for Chelsea and their new squad as the Blues prepare to take on Manchester City in Saturday’s semi final at Wembley.

Caicedo, who arrived from Brighton last summer for a British record transfer fee has played in every round of the FA Cup for the Blues so far.

The Ecuadorian will no doubt be looking to go one further with his new club, having been knocked out at the same stage last season with Brighton.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men were so close to winning the Carabao Cup in February and despite having the better chances they came up short.

The 22-year-old feels winning the FA Cup this season is really important for the club and it’s new squad.

“Yeah, it’s so important for the club, for the players, Caicedo told the FA’s official website.

“It will be a good season for us. With a trophy it will be like we’ve finished well, because we are a new team, new squad. To win a trophy with a new squad is so massive.”

Having struggled in his first few games Caicedo has found his rhythm as the season has gone on, and has put in a series of impressive performances in recent weeks.

The Ecuador international has made 40 appearances in all competitions this season, with 28 of those coming in the Premier League.

The Blues don’t have a good recent record at Wembley having lost their last six cup finals at the national stadium, but did win their last FA Cup semi final 2-0 against Crystal Palace in 2022.

In a boost for Pocehttino, Enzo Fernandez and Axel Disasi are back in training having missed Monday’s win against Everton.

It’s a huge opportunity for Chelsea who haven’t lost to City this season, and they will now doubt be buoyed by their opponents having to play 120 minutes on Wednesday night in the Champions League.
