Teun Koopmeiners in action for his team Atalanta

Chelsea have ‘made a move’ to sign a new midfielder after watching him last week

Chelsea have reportedly made a move to try and sign a new midfielder after watching him play for his team last week.

The Blues had people watching the Liverpool vs Atalanta game last week, according to reports, a game in which the Italian side somehow managed to win.

There was a standout player for them too and that was midfielder Teun Koopmeiners. He seems to be a rising name who is liked by many sides, and Chelsea are certainly one of them.

According to a report by Italian outlet SportMediaSet, Chelsea are very keen on Koopmeiners and have ‘made a move’ on the midfielder, who is also of interest to Juventus. This comes after scouting him in recent games.

It’s even stated Mauricio Pochettino’s side is willing to put €60m on the table to try and seal a deal in the summer.

Koopmeiners is a 26-year-old Dutch international and a contract that runs in 2027 with his current club.

The Chelsea News Verdict

I can’t really see too much in this given the amount of centre midfielders Chelsea already have and the fact that we keep seeing strong rumours that they will be selling one that they already own this summer in the shape of Conor Gallagher.

I also think that we have much more pressing positions to be thinking about and more important priorities such as a new striker, a new centre back, and a new left back, maybe even a new winger? I just can’t see Chelsea moving for another centre midfielder right now after having spent so much on Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo, especially at the quoted price above.

The club have also just exercised the option to extend the contract of Enzo Fernandez today, as well as Mykhailo Mudryk.
