Chelsea player says they can still “finish in a good way” this season with 5 games left

One Chelsea players says that they can still finish the season in a good way with just five games remaining on the fixture board now.

They went to Aston Villa on Saturday and should have come away with all three points. Chelsea were poor in the first half and found themselves 2-0 down. But they dominated the game against a team currently in fourth spot in the league and came back to draw 2-2 with a fine second half display. It was probably quite typical for how inconsistent Chelsea have been this season with the difference in quality between the two halves.

There are now just five games left this season, and Chelsea can still qualify for the Europa League if they have a good run in. There’s some tough games coming up, but left back Marc Cucurella believes that they can end the season well.

In words cited by The Evening Standard, Cucurella says: “We are a young team, but that is not an excuse because we showed we have the quality. We played against the team sitting fourth in the League, and we dominated the game.

“But we need to maintain this level for every minute of every game. If we stay this way, we can do a lot of good things.”

Cucurella continued: “The attitude in the second half was very good because we came into this from a difficult game and we started badly again. But the team showed personality, confidence.

“We played together, we fought together. It is the way we need to play in every game, every minute, because the quality is there.

“We need to consider that if we don’t play and fight together, it is going to be difficult because this is one of the best leagues in the world. We need to watch the game again, find the good things, and stay this way.

“We have five games left in the season, and I think we can do a lot of good things and finish in a good way. We must keep going.”

  1. It’s all well and good to talk about improving performance and finishing the season strongly, but after capitulating in so many of our matches this season, there needs to be a comprehensive overhaul behind the scenes, from top to bottom.
