€130m on the line as top striker’s future set to be decided in weeks to come

Victor Osimhen in action

While the summer window doesn’t officially open for months, April is where things start to heat up. This is when we start to get talk of secret agreements between clubs and players for summer moves, and when sporting directors start to figure out their budgets and prospects for the months to come.

For Chelsea, it appears that the key situation to sort out is up front, as it has been for some time. Our top target has long been reported as Victor Osimhen, but it’s now starting to look more like PSG will be his ultimate destination.

Those in charge of our plans need to know what it will take to sign him though, and to that end Sport Witness today claim that a “summit” has been organised where the player’s representatives will meet with suits from various clubs in person to begin arrangements for this summer.

Napoli are going to try and hold out for the €130m that apparently makes up his release clause, but after something of a down season it’s hard to see them getting that. Chelsea certainly don’t have the money to pay that sort of fee, and PSG are taking on a new model too.

A lot will depend on other teams and their potential interest, but if things stay as they are, Osimhen could prove better value than was expected a year ago. It will be very interesting to see what comes of this summer – if it’s true, we’d expect important news about his future to emerge quite soon.
