“Exhilarating” Chelsea loanee given 8/10 and Man of the Match as Championship race comes down to the wire

Ipswich Town are having an amazing season, and thanks to a Chelsea loanee, we feel like part of it.

The top of the table is dominated by relegated Premier League clubs with Premier League level squads and wage budgets, plus hefty parachute payments to help them bounce right back.

It has seemed all year like it’s going to be a Leicester, Leeds Southampton triple-header return to the top flight.

But Ipswich have stuck in there, week after week, on a shoestring, and they’re still clinging on to second with a few games to go.

Last night they drew 0-0, a disappointing result, but with their Chelsea loanee Omari Hutchinson still shining.

He won the man of the match award last night, despite the result, and continued to show great progress. He was Ipswich’s most creative and threatening player as Watford managed to hold them.

Major role in final run

Hutchinson has had to work hard to earn his starting place in the team, and he’s featured as much off the bench as in the lineup this season.

The local press were delighted with Hutchinson despite the disappointing final result:

“Stayed in the XI but shifted to the 10 spot, with Conor Chaplin sitting out. Likes to drift out right in that role, and glided into the box from wide with some nifty footwork after 25 minutes before almost creating something from nothing down the centre seconds later,” the East Anglian Daily Times wrote.

“Set up Broadhead to hit the post as he and the Welshman flexed their creative muscles before half-time. When he’s running with the ball at his feet he is exhilarating, and was clearly the most likely to create something in the second-half as he buzzed around. Town’s best player by a distance. 8/10.”

Whether or not Ipswich go up, the 20 year old has had a great first season in senior football, and has got everything we hoped from this spell in East Anglia. We would love to see him and his teammates rewarded with promotion, but they can be incredibly proud of their efforts either way.

They have 4 games left to play, and every one should be appointment viewing.
