Ex-Blues star hails 21 year old as one of the best signings Chelsea have made “in a long time”

Chelsea legend Florent Malouda has hailed Cole Palmer as one of the best signings the club have made in a long time and believes the Blues should build around the forward.

Whilst Chelsea have struggled this season, Palmer has been a revelation since joining from Manchester City last summer, and has scored 16 goals in 27 Premier League appearances.

The 21 year old made his England senior debut in November against Malta at Wembley and his form has put him in contention to make Gareth Southgate’s final squad for the European Championships this summer.

Palmer has been Chelsea’s standout player this season and the Blues have relied on the former City man to single handedly win them games at times this season.

Former Blue Malouda believes Palmer is one Chelsea’s best signings in a long time.

“I’ve been very impressed with Cole Palmer this season. He is definitely one of the best signings that Chelsea have made in a long time” , he told Gambling Zone.

“He is a very talented, skilful player, but what also impresses me about him is his football IQ and his maturity. He is a very mature player. You can even see that in his celebration: he is cold.”

The Frenchman believes it has been a long time since Chelsea had a player they could build the team around and believes Palmer is that player.

“Chelsea should be planning to build around Palmer for years to come. We haven’t had a player at Chelsea that the team should be built around in a long time”, he added.

“I think that is the way forward and that Cole Palmer is the future of Chelsea.

“I’m also looking forward to seeing him perform in the national team because you can see he has this confidence in his own ability, he is ambitious, and he has his own style.

“He is a unique player. You can’t compare him to anyone else.”

Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping that Palmer can inspire Chelsea to victory in tonight’s game against Everton as Stamford Bridge as they aim to close the gap on the Europa League places.
