“Everyone’s got to be really patient with this” – Club legend gives his assessment on Chelsea’s project

John Terry has called for patience with Chelsea’s young squad following another difficult season for the Stamford Bridge outfit.

Club legend Terry is currently working with the Chelsea academy, and has been able to gain an insight into the first team situation under Mauricio Pochettino.

The Blues have spent £1bn on new signings since Todd Boehly and Clearlake took over just under two years ago, and whilst things haven’t gone as anyone would have expected, there are definitely some talented players at the club.

Terry believes some of Chelsea’s young stars have the ability, but they could do with being surrounded by more experience at the highest level to help them reach their potential.

“I think everyone’s got to be really patient on this”, he told Up Front with Simon Jordan.

“And I say this because I’m around it, I’m not part of the first team but I’m in the academy. Occasionally our boys go over, and you get to see some of these boys.

“There’s some quality players in that dressing room, but they’re babies. Honestly, they’re babies, they’re kids.

“They just need a little bit of time. You see that performance, where does that come from against Everton?

“You’ve got one of the youngest players in the group showing personality. Is that because he’s played at a top club under a top manager and is showing what it takes?.”

Under the new ownership the Blues have gone down the route of signing the best young talent from around the world and Europe, but have neglected the importance of leadership and experience in the squad.

The upcoming summer window is going to be crucial for the club, with both fans and Pochettino calling for more experienced heads to be added to the squad.

What the ownership decide to do this summer will go a long way to telling us what direction Chelsea will be heading in over the next few years.
