Major u-turn over midfielder’s future could see Chelsea fans’ worst nightmare about to come true

Football Insider have dropped an exclusive about Conor Gallagher’s future which claims that a move to Tottenham Hotspur is back on for this summer.

Pete O’Rourke describes Spurs as “well-placed” to sign the midfielder this summer, despite Gallagher having turned them down last summer. He is now “ready to move away from Stamford Bridge,” having quite clearly seen that selling him is the priority of those at the top of the hierarchy.

There has been a “halt” in talks between the regular captain in the club over a new contract, while Newcastle have fallen away in the race to sign him due to financial reasons.

All of this adds up to a great chance for Spurs to take advantage and steal away the home-grown Cobham boy who has been one of the few bright spots in a dreadful season. Mauricio Pochettino has made him a regular captain and given him 39 starts this season – but as we’ve seen, how useful a player is to the team is no longer a major consideration for those in charge.

No surprises if midfielder’s hand is forced

It’s long been reported that Conor wouldn’t go to Spurs, as a Chelsea boy through and through. And we can well believe that. But we also wouldn’t be surprised if the midfielder does eventually feel his hand has been forced. One can’t expect him to put club loyalty above his own career, especially when the club he’s trying to be loyal to is doing all it can to push him out.

They clearly haven’t offered him a contract he thinks is fair, then they’re also accepting bids from Tottenham. How can anyone expect Gallagher to be loyal to the end if Chelsea aren’t going to reciprocate? It would break our hearts to see him in “Lilywhite,” but our anger would be towards those who set us up in this position, not towards Conor.
