Mauricio Pochettino reveals why he dropped £50m star following fan criticism

Mauricio Pochettino has revealed he isn’t scared to play Raheem Sterling despite dropping him to the bench after he was booed off against Leicester in the FA Cup.

Sterling hasn’t started a game since that poor display at Stamford Bridge where sections of the home crowd turned against him.

The 29 year old came off the bench against Burnley and Manchester United but was an unused substitute in the draw against Sheffield United.

Chelsea are back in action tonight against Everton and Pochettino has insisted his team selections aren’t influenced by the fans.

“No, it’s because we assess all the player’s performance, and I think we need to be fair, or trying to be fair, and we gave the opportunity to Noni Madueke to play” , the Argentine said in quotes picked up by The Standard.

“And to put Palmer in another position to find a good balance. You know, we’ve got to get someone on the left, and I think it’s because we assess the player’s form and then make a decision. It’s only for that.
