Mauricio Pochettino says he would be happy to stay at Chelsea without European football

Ahead of another Chelsea game this evening, manager Mauricio Pochettino has been speaking to the media in his pre-match press conference.

This obviously happened last week, but as is always the case with these pre-match pressers, they tactically release sections of the quotes all over the weekend to build the suspense, or whatever you want to call it!

Sources: Manager names on Chelsea’s shortlist to replace Mauricio Pochettino revealed!

It’s all rather daft if you ask me, but the media outlets are only allowed to release sections at the time. Why they don’t just put it all out at the same time is beyond me, but that’s the way it works.

Anyway, the latest segment came out late last night, on a Sunday night when most of us are in the land of nod anyway! So you will be waking to these latest quotes, and once again, we have Pochettino speaking about Chelsea not getting European football this season ahead of tonight’s big match against Everton in the Premier League.

Chelsea are now facing a dogfight to secure European qualification but Pochettino has offered assurances he would remain fully committed to the project even if the Blues fall short.

When asked if he would be happy to continue if Chelsea do not achieve the objective, the former Spurs boss replied: “Of course, because when I arrived here, we already know that we are not going to compete in Europe.

“And I said the project and I said the idea to come here and to build, you know, a squad to be competitive and to try to reach this level. So yes, that is no problem for me.”

He’s basically saying that he wouldn’t walk away from this job just because (if) we didn’t secure European football this season.

The problem is once again though, this isn’t going to sit well with the Chelsea fan base!
