Arsenal boss backs Mauricio Pochettino to succeed at Chelsea, insisting he’s doing a “really good job”

Mikel Arteta has backed Mauricio Pochettino to do a good job at Chelsea after thrashing his team 5-0 on Tuesday night.

Former Blue Kai Havertz scored twice as did Ben White, with Leandro Trossard also on the scoresheet as the Gunners ran riot at the Emirates.

The win sees Arsenal go three points clear at the top, whilst Chelsea remain ninth, three points adrift of Newcastle and Manchester United in the race for European competition.

When asked about Pochettino, who is one of his friends in football the Spaniard backed the former Tottenham man to do a good job at Stamford Bridge.

“All the sympathy in the world, with everything that he’s been through and everything that he’s been doing. He knows that”, Arteta said in quotes picked up by the The Evening Standard.

“I’ve been on the other side as well. He’s doing a great job, I think when you look at this team and analyse every second of them, they deserve to win many matches, they deserve to win against big teams.

“He’s doing a really good job so hopefully things will turn around and be as he deserves.

“I love winning. He would try to do the same. When you talk about sympathy and someone I love and admire, for sure, I want the best for him.”

Defeat on Tuesday night has increased the pressure on the 52-year-old with it being reported his job isn’t safe beyond the summer following another disappointing campaign for the west London club.

It doesn’t get easier for Chelsea as they face Aston Villa and Tottenham in their next two games to kick off a tough final six games of the season.

The Blues ideally need to win both those games to keep alive their hopes of qualifying for Europe, and failure to do so could have disastrous consequences for Pochettino’s future.
