(Video): “The team gave up” – Mauricio Pochettino accuses his players of surrendering

Mauricio Pochettino is always reluctant to criticise his players too much, and that was on full display tonight as he tried his best be kind to them despite the 5-0 defeat.

The manager did have to admit some faults in their game though. He said that after the second and third goal his team “gave up” and lost the belief they could win.

He then starts to make an excuse, as he did in his other interviews, reminding us that Arsenal are one of the best teams in the league. Which is true, but this isn’t the time for that, Mauricio.

You can see the coach speaking in the clip embedded here:

That’s pretty damning, by his standards. And we all saw it happen. There was little belief even before kick off, and much less after 4 minutes when Arsenal scored. Pochettino is confessing that his players gave up, which is something fans don’t ever want to see or hear.

He’s in a very tough spot now.

  1. What do you mean it “isn’t the time?” Poch is merely stating a FACT. Arsenal are literally top of the league and to ignore that reality is to deny the very nature of the matchup, lol! SuperFrank, as usual, trying to twist the news to serve his narrative. Tsk tsk!

What’s actually worth noting, and you can see it all play out in the Arsenal season of “All or Nothing” on Amazon Prime, is that Arteta almost didn’t survive his first season. The supporters wanted his head on a spike and they’d have thrown away everything they’re now reaping if they’d had their way. Folks like SuperFrank who seem to relish every opportunity to bad mouth Poch would do well to heed the lesson!
