Chelsea fans will be pleased to see what Romeo Lavia said about Enzo Maresca in 2021

As it looks like Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca will soon be announced as the new head coach of Chelsea, some comments by Romeo Lavia from 2021 resurfaced, and it’s positive.

Chelsea fans in general have not reacted well to the news that Maresca looks set to become the new Chelsea boss, with concerns over his lack of experience as a manager and making a huge step up to a club like Chelsea.

Sources: BIG Summer Chelsea transfer updates on Sesko, Osimhen, Ferguson, Lukaku, Olise Abarabioyo, Kelly, & Badiashile!

Make no mistake, this is a massive risk from the Chelsea decision makers, and some would even call it a massive mistake already.

But other Chelsea fans are certainly more willing to give it all time and see how he gets on here, being open minded and ready to back the new manager. And perhaps these comments from Lavia will help with that.

Maresca has managed Lavia and Cole Palmer before

Lavia and Cole Palmer played under Maresca for Manchester City’s U21 side, and Lavia credits Maresca for helping his game.

As reported by Goal at the time back in 2021, Lavia said about Maresca: “I really enjoy recovering the ball and pass through the lines.”

“Enzo’s helped me a lot with that, always being on the half-turn so I can see the game going forward, so it’s not a problem now.

“I know that I’ve got my qualities, but if I do something wrong they help me. Obviously my team-mates have got experience – some of them have trained with the first team. They’ve helped me a lot and I’ll keep learning.”

The other big positive of course is that Maresca worked at City with one of Chelsea’s directors Joe Shields, so he will know some familiar faces on the training pitches as well as in the backrooms.

Let’s hope this massive gamble that Chelsea are clearly making pays off!
