Chelsea fans will love what Pep Guardiola said about pending new manager Enzo Maresca

Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca looks set to become the next Chelsea manager bar any late crazy changes of plans on either side.

Maresca to Chelsea alreadyhas the ‘here we go’ from Fabrizio Romano, which nine times out of ten means that the deal will get done and an announcement will soon follow.

Maresca to Chelsea has created a lot of debate amongst Chelsea fans and football fans in general, with it clearly being a massive risk appointing someone who has never managed in the Premier League before and has very limited experience even as a head coach.

But it seems like Chelsea are taking on Maresca due to the style of football he likes to play, and maybe also due to the fact that he is from the Pep Guardiola school of football!

Maresca worked under Guardiola at Manchester City, and then he was the head coach of their U21 team, a team that had the likes of Romeo Lavia and Cole Palmer in, two current Chelsea players.

So does this mean that Chelsea have themselves the next Pep Guardiola? Well, time will tell on that one. But he does have the sign off from Pep.

In an interview I dug back out from 2021, Guardiola was talking about Maresca being a top coach when he was managing the U21s in the PL2.

Guardiola said: “Enzo Maresca will be an extraordinary manager. I feel it like I felt it with Mikel Arteta.”

It’s certainly high press from one of the best managers to ever be in the game, a man who was also a pretty good player in his time too.

Of course he was always going to praise his own staff, but the emphasis on the word ‘extraordinary’ really is something.
