Chelsea make enquiry to sign new 22-year-old La Liga goalkeeper per top source

Chelsea have reportedly made an enquiry to sign a 22-year-old goalkeeper from La Liga according to a top source this week.

There’s been a lot of talk about pending new manager Enzo Maresca maybe needing a new goalkeeper to be able to play his style of football, wanting a stopper who can be more of a sweeper keeper and make pinpoint passes out from the back.

There are many doubts over whether Djordje Petrovic or Robert Sanchez can be that keeper, so Chelsea may well look to bring in a new one this summer. And they are already being linked with some names.

The latest one, according to top source Matteo Moretto of Relevo, is Villarreal stopper Filip Jörgensen, who he claims has had an enquiry come in to his club by Chelsea.

Who is Jorgensen?

The 22-year-old stands at 6ft 3in tall and has been at his club since 2017. He previously played for Mallorca and Malmo FF at youth level, but he’s been at Villarreal his entire senior career so far.

He’s made just 30 senior appearances in La Liga since 2023, before that he was playing for Villarreal B team.

He had a dual nationality and has represented Sweden and Denmark at youth level, most recently for Denmark U21s, making 6 appearances for them. He’s yet to earn a senior international cap.

He has a market value of around £12m and his current contract runs out at Villarreal in 2027.

Our verdict

This makes no sense at all. There is certainly no proof to say this guy would be any better than what they already have, and is just another young and VERY inexperienced goalkeeper, just like Petrovic and Gaga Slonina who they already have in the ranks.

This link is just strange to me, but nothing surprises me anymore with this club!

  1. Maresca is going to demand a keeper who is composed with the ball at his feet and who is spot on with his distribution. Petrovic is neither of these things and Sanchez is only slightly better (having shown he’s got some big errors in him).

I have no idea if Jorgensen is the answer, but we have GOT to buy an upgrade at the keeper position. Neither Petrovic nor Sanchez are strong shot stoppers when you compare their saves expected goals allowed to actual goals allowed (indeed, Petrovic is nearly the worst keeper in the league!), so something has got to give.
