Chelsea ownership want stability to come from club’s sporting structure rather than the manager

Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital want stability at the club to come from the sporting structure they have built over the last two years and not from the manger, according to reports.

Chelsea are once again looking for a new manager following the announcement of Mauricio Pochettino’s departure on Tuesday, despite guiding Chelsea back to European football with a top six finish.

It means the Blues are now on the hunt to appoint their third permanent manager since the new ownership took over two years ago, following the dismissals of Graham Potter and Pochettino.

Chelsea want stability from their Sporting structure not manager

In the aftermath of the Argentine’s departure the spotlight has once again been firmly placed on Chelsea’s sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart.

Whilst the duo weren’t responsible for the appointment of Potter they were responsible for his sacking and the subsequent appointment of Pochettino.

Chelsea want stability to come from their sporting structure rather than manager.

Winstanley and Stewart aren’t popular with Chelsea fans, with many believing they should be sacked for a number of decisions they have got wrong.

However, according to the latest report from Liam Twomey in The Athletic the pair are said to have the total confidence and unequivocal backing of Chelsea’s ownership.

Interestingly the report adds the club don’t want stability to come from the manager, but rather from the sporting structure put in place over the last couple of years, which they hope can be in place for the next ten years.

It’s certainly an interesting point of view and goes against what the ownership said when they first came in about wanting a manager here for the long term.

The club’s that have been most successful in recent years are the ones who have had continuity with their manager for a number of years.

It’s appears Chelsea’s ownership view continuity in the sporting structure as more important than how long a manager is in place for, which does sound slightly worrying.
