Fabrizio Romano: Chelsea not planning to sign heavily-linked world class striker

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are NOT planning to sign a world class striker this summer who they have been heavily-linked with over recent months.

It sounds like they have other ideas in the striker department, and it looks like one of the heavily reported top targets in attack, is no longer going to be on their agenda.

Sources: Chelsea looking at SIX goalkeeper targets for the summer with change incoming!

We have had months of links with Chelsea reportedly wanting to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen this summer, but it now looks very unlikely to happen.

Romano says: “Chelsea will sign a new striker this summer as part of next season plans but no negotiations or talks taking place for Victor Osimhen, with or without Lukaku in the deal. Chelsea are not planning to go for Osimhen as of now.”

He also states that Romelu Lukaku and Armando Broja are both expected to leave this summer – which would leave them still with just one recognised striker in Nicolas Jackson.

It’s actually probably a good thing

Chelsea will need to look elsewhere for a new striker

Osimhen has a release clause of around £120m, and you just know that an owner like Napoli have is not going to negotiate that fee any lower. It’s a huge amount of money just for one player, a player who has also suffered some injuries this season and is currently injured now. A player who whilst yes is a good goalscorer, is also perhaps not the perfect profile of a possession-based football team, which is what Chelsea apparently want to be playing under Enzo Maresca when he is confirmed as new head coach as expected.

Chelsea will also have a number of other positions they will be needing to sign in this summer, so it will be wise not to spend a huge chunk of the transfer budget on just one player. I think this news is a good thing.
