“My goodness…” – Pundit picks something very unusual to praise about Cole Palmer

The Premier League has just announced the nominees for Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year. Cole Palmer is up for both awards, so it’s a great time to reflect on how good he’s been this season.

On TalkSport they were waxing lyrical about the midfielder’s season and the bravery it had taken for him to leave his Man City comfort zone and make his way to Chelsea.

It was interesting to hear Darren Bent commenting on Palmer’s speed. Most people would say that a lack of pace is the attacker’s biggest weakness, but Bent was noting how he “glides past people.”

“He’s quick enough too. My goodness, when he puts his foot down!”

It’s true that like many tall attackers, Palmer seems to move faster with the ball than without. We still certainly wouldn’t talk about speed as an asset, but he does have a deceptive long gait which moves him up the field quickly.
