“Something in there” – Former England striker speaks on current Chelsea player

One former England striker believes there is ‘something in there’ speaking about one current Chelsea player who has often been on the end of critique since arriving at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have signed many new players over the last few transfer windows, and when you arrive at Chelsea there is automatically a pressure to perform that follows you along. Chelsea are a huge club with a rich history, more recently, of winning trophies and competing at the very top.

Sources: Gareth Southgate to Chelsea!?

Things have not quite been like that lately at the club, but they are looking to build a squad to take them back to those times again. So there’s an expectation about this squad and the new players that have arrived at it recently.

Striker Nicolas Jackson has had many doubters and has been a little raw since he arrived, mostly in front of goal. But his form and performances have got so much better lately and people are really taking note.

He’s become an important player for Chelsea in recent games, and his scoring stats are certainly not bad at all for a reasonably young striker who is playing his first season in the Premier League. Sure, there’s been real inconsistency too and signs of a raw player, but his recent performances have got one of England’s best ever strikers, Gary Lineker.

As cited by SPTC, Lineker said on Jackson: “We’ve been looking at him. There’s something in there. He has got something about him, he looks to get behind players, just needs to improve his finishing slightly. But he is still young and has definitely improved as the season has gone on.”

Jackson will need to kick on a lot more now next season and continue this recent momentum. He is also going to have to fight for his place even more with a new striker expected to arrive.
