Christopher Nkunku came on a lot earlier than expected in tonight’s game because of an injury to Mykhailo Mudryk, and the Frenchman was able to make it count.
While he was totally out on his feet by full time, it was his goal which ended up winning Chelsea the game.
Peeling off his defender in the box, he was perfectly placed to sweep home Malo Gusto’s cutback.
It wasn’t his first goal for us, but it was the first time we’ve seen his trademark celebration. Fans have been waiting a long time to see that Blue balloon. Some of them have been waiting since the first rumours of our agreement with Nkunku back in October 2022. Let’s hope it’s the first occasion of many we get to see this in the years to come. Things just haven’t worked out for Nkunku since he came to Chelsea, so it’s nice to have this boost as we head into the summer.
