Questions about Mauricio Pochettino’s future continue to hang in the air, despite the coach finishing the season strong and delivering European football.
TeamTalk have an exclusive today which claims to have inside information about the thinking at the very highest level of Chelsea’s organisational structure.
They say that the reasons that Pochettino isn’t already known to be the next coach is that one of the key men involved in making the decision isn’t convinced by him – and in fact never was.
Co-controlling owner Behdad Eghbali is cited as the doubter:
“TEAMtalk sources have confirmed that co-owner Behdad Eghbali was never fully convinced he was the correct man from the start and is yet to be fully sold on the ideas of the Argentine manager,” Fraser Gillian’s piece claims.
This is at odds with other figures on the board, who pushed for Pochettino to begin with and are happier with his work so far.
Pochettino likely to be given the benefit of the doubt
We’re really not sure what to make of this, frankly. On the one hand it would explain a lot about why Pochettino hasn’t already been confirmed as new coach through briefings to the club’s favoured outlets.
On the other hand, this may be some reverse reasoning from the writers here trying to come up with their own logic for why it hasn’t yet happened, and knowing that Eghbali’s thoughts are never going to be made public, so it’s a risk free take.
We will have to see what happens over the next few days, but we still remain confident Pochettino will keep the job. Even if Eghbali does have doubts, he will surely give Pochettino more time to prove him wrong after what has been a relatively successful season, rather than blow up the whole operation for the third time in his two year spell as owner.
