18 year old academy star “set to join Leicester” in “separate deal” – creates rift in fans

Chelsea’s deal to sign Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester is almost complete.

Fabrizio Romano has just given his famous “here we go!” treatment to the move, which he says has all been verbally agreed, with the midfielder coming to Chelsea for £30m.

But as we’re seeing more and more often this summer, there may be more to it than just the price. Romano followed up by noting that Michael Golding, the talented Chelsea youth player, could be going the other way:

“Chelsea talent Michael Golding set to join Leicester City in separate deal after Dewsbury-Hall moves to #CFC for £30m,” Romano wrote.

“Talks underway between clubs.”

Top Chelsea writer Matt Law of the Daily Telegraph repeated the same news, clearly being tipped off by the same source.

It’s a separate deal, at least officially, but one would imagine that talks over both moves have taken place at the same time, and that it’s all being arranged to maximise PSR compliance for both sides.

Another top talent out of the door

It’s gutting to lose Golding, who is one of the most promising players in the academy in the older age groups. He trained with the first team a lot in the season just gone, and even made his debut as a sub in the FA Cup back in January. He’s a midfielder in a similar mould to KDH, and has potentially even been promised his place in midfield, tempting him to leave Chelsea for game time. We would imagine he would be a prime candidate for a domestic loan were he to stay with the Blues.

As always, it’s creating another online culture war about the future of the club. The replies to Law’s Tweets are a battleground between those saying that it’s a disaster and those saying they don’t care about Cobham youth products.

  1. Hope they include buy back clause . Michael Golding has a opportunity to become good player. Sad to see him go .
