Chelsea “have approached” top striker target already says Fabrizio Romano

Fabrizio Romano’s latest update on the future of Benjamin Sesko makes it sound like a decision is coming pretty soon on where his future will be.

The RB Leipzig striker has a big new contract renewal on the table from his current club, where he is developing nicely. But if he wants to make the jump abroad now, he also has options. Romano reports that Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea “have all approached Sesko since March/April.”

A three way transfer tussle for the striker looks set to commence, with Sesko now “taking some more days to decide his future.”

Staying put in the Bundesliga certainly hasn’t been ruled out. But having three Premier League teams battling to sign you is a pretty sweet position to be in, and in some ways you feel he should use this chance to play them against each other while his stock is so high.

A deal that seems perfect – but major persuasion will be needed

Sesko looks a brilliant striker for what Chelsea want to do – capable of leading the line but with all the skill needed to play a possession style of football.

The problem right now for Chelsea fans is those other teams involved. Not long ago, we’d be confident of landing any player we wanted ahead of Arsenal, because we could offer more money and a better chance of trophies. Now we’re not so confident of that at all. If you were Sesko, and you had your choice of Arsenal, Man U or Chelsea, which project would you have the most faith in? Which one would you hang your future on? We fear it’s not a clear cut answer now, and in fact some people would rank Chelsea as bottom of those 3.

There are always more factors than that involved, and we can’t be ruled out yet, but circumstances are very different to what they would have been not long ago.
