“No intention” – Fabrizio Romano provides update on Chelsea’s striker search

Chelsea have “no intention” of making a summer move for Victor Osimhen due to his age and the cost of a deal, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues are in the market for a striker this summer and have been strongly linked with a move for Nigeria international Osimhen, but that now appears unlikely to happen.

The club will need to make sure they sign the right striker for incoming manager Enzo Maresca who has agreed a five year deal to takeover at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have no intention of moving for Osimhen

Chelsea are set for another busy summer, and there are expected to be plenty of incomings and outgoings in west London.

They are reportedly targeting four signings, a goalkeeper, left back, centre back and striker as they look to strengthen the squad and return to the Champions League next season.

Nicolas Jackson did very well in his first season, scoring 14 Premier League goals, but Chelsea need more firepower and a proven goalscorer in their ranks.

It appears highly unlikely Osimhen will join Chelsea this summer.

The Blues had been expected to follow up their long standing interest in Osimhen, but perhaps surprisingly to some, Romano has confirmed they have “no intention” of moving for the Nigerian.

“Chelsea has no intention to go for Victor Osimhen this summer, as of today this is my information, he’s not priority striker target for Chelsea and it’s not even a negotiation,” Romano said on his YouTube channel.

“Chelsea has different ideas, in terms of age of the player and cost of the deal.”

From a financial perspective you can understand why the club feel the deal is too expensive given Osimhen’s release clause is believed to be around £113m and Chelsea would have to break their wage structure for the forward as well.

However, the age of the player just doesn’t make sense given he is 25 and entering the prime years of his career, and the Blues are going to be hard pushed to find a proven goalscorer under that age who will make an instant impact at the club.

Chelsea have also been linked with moves for Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres, whilst a move for Ivan Toney can seemingly be ruled out as he is older than Osimhen.

Sesko is perhaps the most likely option, but maybe Chelsea have a surprise target up their sleeve.
