Chelsea want to keep fan favourite despite concerns over profit and sustainability rules

Chelsea would like to keep Conor Gallagher this summer, despite being under pressure to stay within Premier League profit and sustainability rules, according to reports.

Incoming boss Enzo Maresca is facing the prospect of the club selling off a number of academy stars including key players Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah.

The Blues have agreed a deal with Leicester City for Maresca to become their next manager, and the 44-year-old will sign a five year contact at Stamford Bridge following the departure of Mauricio Pochettino last month.

Chelsea want to keep Gallagher?

Chelsea are once again expected to be busy in the upcoming transfer window and the Blues are believed to want to sign a goalkeeper, left back, centre back and striker.

The Blues are expected to move a number of players on, with the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Armando Broja, Ian Maatsen and Kepa Arrizabalaga all expected to leave.

Gallagher was brilliant last season, and was one of the club’s stand out performers as Chelsea secured a top six finish and a return to European competition.

Gallagher’s current deal expires in 2025.

Question marks have surrounded the England international’s future and he is out of contract in 2025, with talks over a new deal yet to start.

Chelsea are believed to value the midfielder at around £50m, and he has strong interest from Tottenham, whilst Newcastle and Aston Villa are both monitoring his situation.

However, The Mirror have reported the club would in fact like to keep the 24-year-old despite a sale acting as “pure profit” on the books, but they add Gallagher may be sacrificed if he is reluctant to sign.

Gallagher is a fan favourite at Stamford Bridge, and was the only player to make 50 or more appearances for the club last season.

The midfielder is expected to make the cut for Gareth Southgate’s final 26 man squad for the Euros, and will be hoping to help England win their first trophy since 1966.

  1. Gallagher has the work rate to win us a lot of balls, but the question mark is whether he has the technical ability to perform in the half spaces that Maresca’s tactical approach will demand. I love what Gallagher brought to the team this year, but we did see his touch let him down at times so the jury is still very much out as to whether he’ll be a fit for the new system.

    1. He gives everything week in week out all so he makes Goals. you need a player like that to build a team.why would you get shot of one of your best players
