19 year old Aaron Anselmino must have thought he was living the dream just a few scant months ago when he broke into the team at his boyhood club, Boca Juniors. In fact, the story was only just beginning for the youngster.
He’s now set to complete a move to Chelsea, with the Argentine journalist Uriel Iugt reporting that the Blues have agreed a $18m deal with Boca for the central defender. “Aaron Anselmino is a new Chelsea player,” he concluded.
That’s a big price for a young player with little senior football experience, but clearly this ownership’s policy of trying to jump the queue on signing all the best young South American talents isn’t changing anytime soon. Following last season’s Brazilian rush, it seems the scouts have cast their eyes to the other side of the Rio de la Plata.

A mad few weeks ahead for young talent
According to Iugt – who doesn’t have a blue tick but broke the news initially last week, the defender will travel overnight on Tuesday to London for his medical on Wednesday, before heading back to Argentina, where he will continue to play for Boca on loan for another year.
It’s going to be a whirlwind few months for the Argentine – we can’t wait to see him in action and start to find out more about what the ceiling could be for his immense talent. Staying put where he’s comfortable and starting to play regularly is a sensible move too. There’s no need to rush a move to Europe before he’s ready.
In a year’s time we will have seen him in action a little more, and will know what a sensible next step would be. He may be ready to become a Chelsea squad player, or perhaps spend some time at our sister club Strasbourg.
