Exclusive says €10m midfielder can be “unofficial” swap for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall

Reports about Chelsea’s move for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall are rattling on, with the move really going up a gear in terms of the density of chatter in the last 24 hours.

Our writer Simon Phillips has a nice piece up on his Substack where he talks us through the whole deal and where it’s come from. The most interesting thing to note is that he says it’s very much a signing driven by the sporting directors, not by new coach Enzo Maresca.

The speculation has bene that Maresca has pushed for Dewsbury-Hall as he was such a vital part of his Leicester team last season. But as Phillips points out, we were actually already linked with the midfielder a year ago, long before Maresca was coach.

We’re sure the new manager has given an enthusiastic green light, but that shouldn’t be confused with him going to those above him and asking for a player. As we know from what happened with Mauricio Pochettino, that’s more likely to get your fired than get you the player you want.

Phillips reports that KDH is “desperate” to join Chelsea, and has delayed his holiday to try and help a move go through.

Central midfielder could be “unofficial” part of swap deal

There’s also an interesting section on €10m valued Cesare Casadei as potentially an unofficial part of the deal:

“Talks will continue between Leicester and Chelsea on Sunday as they look to find an agreement. SPTC sources have heard that Chelsea are trying to move Cesare Casadei to Leicester as part of the deal. It won’t officially be a swap deal or part of the deal, it will be separate, but unofficially it would be part of it.”

Much as with the Ian Maatsen – Omari Kellyman deal with Aston Villa, it seems swaps done unofficially are the way forward with FFP and PSR in mind.
