Former Chelsea manager under consideration by his previous club in surprise news

One former Chelsea manager is reportedly now back under consideration by his previous club in news that will surprise many people this morning.

It’s not uncommon at all for former managers and players to return to their previous clubs in some capacity, and it’s happened at Chelsea quite a bit too.

Sources: Chelsea still eyeing centre backs, winger noise intensifies, Osimhen off the menu – who now?

Jose Mourinho famously returned for a second spell as manager, and Frank Lampard did the same as interim manager only last season.

I think one man who you can safely say will not be back at Chelsea though is recent boss Graham Potter, who was sacked as Chelsea manager just last season, and it was actually Lampard who took over from him as interim boss to see out the season.

Things didn’t work out between Chelsea and Potter, and it just seemed like a task too much and too big for the former Brighton man.

Could he now return to the East Coast?

A return to Brighton for Potter may well now be on the cards though.

The Athletic report Brighton & Hove Albion have given consideration to hiring Graham Potter for a second spell as head coach.

Although the publication also describe a return as unlikely, it is something that the club are considering as they look to replace departing manager Roberto De Zerbi, who was also ironically linked to the vacant Chelsea managerial role expected to be filled by Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca now.

Our verdict

I think Brighton fans would actually probably welcome Potter back, he did very well there after all, and I can’t see there being too much animosity between the fans and their former boss.

Whether it happens or not is another thing, but I think it could be a good move for Potter at least if it does come to fruition.
