“He’s electric” – Kobbie Mainoo sings praises of Chelsea ace after major tournament debut

Kobbie Mainoo described Cole Palmer as “electric” following England’s goalless draw against Slovenia on Tuesday evening.

England had already secured their place in the knockout stages before the game kicked off, and the point secured them top spot in Group C.

There was an expectation for the Three Lions to put in a much improved showing from the game against Denmark, and whilst it was better in parts it was still largely uninspiring.

There was one positive to take from the night and that was the impact the substitutes made from the bench, with both Palmer and Mainoo impressing.

Following a superb season with Chelsea which saw him named Premier League Young Player of the Year, Palmer has had to bide his team at Euro 2024.

Despite starting both of the warm up games before the tournament, and a lot of talk over whether he should be in the starting line-up, the 22-year-old was completely overlooked for the first two games.

Palmer once again started on the bench against Slovenia, but with 20 minutes to go he finally made his bow at a major tournament as he replaced Bukayo Saka.

The former Manchester City man was a threat, and injected some much needed urgency into the game, and could have won it for England with a chance you would probably expect him to score.

After the game Mainoo, who replaced Conor Gallagher at half time was full of praise for Palmer and described him as “electric.”

“He’s electric and you’ve seen in the Premier League what he can do and he’s continuing to do that. He’s one of the best in training, he’s never eased off the gas,” he told ITV Sport.

Pundits were full of praise for Palmer’s cameo and Southgate will now be under pressure to get him into the team for Sunday’s last 16 clash.
