Djordje Petrovic opens up on returning to America for Chelsea’s pre-season tour

Djordje Petrovic is looking forward to returning to the United States for the Blues’ pre season tour, having become a fan favourite during his time in the MLS.

Chelsea will step up their preparations for the 204/2025 campaign under new boss Enzo Maresca when they head Stateside in late July.

The Blues will face off against Wrexham, Celtic, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Club America in five different cities.

Petrovic looking forward to return to the US

Petrovic arrived at Chelsea last summer from MLS side New England Revolution for £14m, and impressed in his debut campaign making 31 appearances in all competitions.

The 24-year-old has been reflecting on his time in America and how he’s looking forward to returning with Chelsea in pre-season.

“My time there was very important for me,” Petrovic told Chelsea’s website.

Petrovic made 31 appearances during his first season for Chelsea.

“And I didn’t expect that after 16 months I’d be signing for Chelsea, but I only have good memories of Boston and New England.

“I have a lot of friends in America and I think they will come to watch the matches against Man City and Real Madrid as it’s not so far from Boston.

“I am excited to go back and see them, on and off the pitch, I had a really good time there.”

The Serbia international is looking forward to playing in familiar surroundings and has good memories of the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.

“I remember well because we won and I kept a clean sheet,” says Petrovic recalled.

“There were nearly 70,000 supporters there if I remember right and it was a really good atmosphere in the stadium, you could feel it.

“The fans in America, they are very passionate, they love to see us and the big clubs like Chelsea and Real Madrid, for us it’s good too because we can connect with them in a good way.

“Playing against Real Madrid there [Charlotte] will be a really good experience.

“They are one of the best teams in the world, Champions League finalists, and it will be good for us to play against them as we get ready for the season.”

Petrovic will be looking to build on his impressive first campaign under new boss Maresca, although the Blues have been strongly linked with signing another goalkeeper this summer.
